The new Jack Pine Lodge was built in 1945 in order to attract the business from the CC Camps in the area (Civilian Conservation Corps). They did the majority of the new planting of the trees in the area and would get pretty thirsty at the end of the week.
The first paved road in the area was M94 built in the mid 1950's and it connected Munising and Manistique. Being such a rural area the Jack Pine installed two gas pumps to service area residents and anybody traveling the main road.
Being so close to many inland lakes, the Jack Pine Lodge also rented small boats and motors along with their cabins. Local residents used the bar as a gathering place for their entire family and friends. The kids were sent outide to play on the swings and slide with their candy bar and pop, while the adults would have a few of their favorite beverages inside at the bar. The swing set and slide are still in use today and a sandbox with change in it also helps to entertain the kids.
The cabins were used by hunters, vacationers, and honeymooners. We still have one couple that comes fishing every year who spent their honeymoon here! They just celebrated their 50th anniversary.
We have treaded lightly when maintaining the lodge. The origional bar, stumps for stools, unique table bases, benches and decor have remained pretty much unchanged since 1945!
Todays customers are still deer, bear, and bird hunters along with fishermen, snowmobilers, ORV'ers, hikers, bikers, bird watchers, tourists, and of course the local residents. They all enjoy our full menu at the same place that their parents and grandparents brought them to as kids. |
